Sidney plant reaches 1 million hours working safe, earns four local safety awards
recently celebrated reaching 1 million hours worked without a lost-time injury.
In addition to the safety milestone, the team received all four of the local Shelby County Safety Council awards during a ceremony on May 15.
“This is the first time the site has ever achieved this milestone,” said Sidney’s Environmental Health and Safety Manager Dave Haller. “The team has no plans to stop its efforts in continuing to keep everyone out of harm’s way.”
The four county safety awards include:
- 100% Award. This is given to all companies that have worked the entire calendar year without a lost-time injury or illness.
- Group Award. This is given to companies with the lowest incident rate in their business group.
- Achievement Award. This is given to companies that decrease their incident rate by at least 25 percent from the previous year.
- Special Award. This is given to any company that accumulates at least 500,000 hours and at least six months without a lost-time injury or illness.
Dave said the Sidney leadership team has worked hard to improve safety, using many of the tools Schwan’s has available. Success has come from improved training and communication.
