Oct. 12, 2017 — Our team in Bloomington, Minnesota, recently wrapped up another successful Food Mania fundraiser benefiting Second Harvest Heartland. This year, our group raised $10,619. Employees also participated in a food drive, collecting 436 pounds of non-perishable items for the Second Harvest Heartland food bank.
This was the seventh-consecutive year our Bloomington team participated in Food Mania to help Second Harvest Heartland build awareness about hunger and alleviate hunger issues in the community. The campaign efforts were led by our Schwan’s Engagement Council (SEC). To maximize fundraising potential, help build employee connections and have fun, the SEC developed a series of activities, including jean days, a silent auction, a food drive and raffle drawings.
The campaign officially took place from Sept. 18-28. Senior Sales Analyst Meghan Shaughnessy, who helped coordinate this year’s event, said that the employee's efforts, including money raised and food donations, is equivalent to approximately 31,857 meals donated for the community.
Second Harvest Heartland is affiliated with Feeding America, the leading non-profit organization working to end hunger in the United States. In 2011, the company announced it had entered into an official partnership with Feeding America.
The event was coordinated by our Bloomington-based Schwan’s Engagement Council (SEC). SEC is an employee-led committee dedicated to increasing engagement and celebrating successes as one Schwan’s team. The group is committed to educating employees about the company’s business, supporting community through volunteer efforts, driving collaboration across business units through activities and encouraging employees to make a personal commitment to health and safety.
