Consumers encouraged to share their #frozenselfies
March 4, 2019 — March is National Frozen Food Month in the United States. To help consumers celebrate, we are sharing a few fun facts and activities. Also, don't forget to celebrate National Frozen Food Day on Wednesday, March 6.
Throughout March, the American Frozen Food Institute (AFFI) is hosting an social campaign encouraging people to post selfies with frozen-food products. The photos should be posted using #frozenselfies.
Also, here are a few fun facts from the Frozen Food Foundation to help consumers weed out the fiction. Some of the facts include:
- Frozen foods are nutritious. Fruits and vegetables are as rich in nutrients, and often more so, than that of fresh-stored produce, according to recent studies by the University of California-Davis and the University of Georgia (UGA). In fact, a "market basket" study by UGA found the amounts of Vitamin A, Vitamin C and folates in several frozen fruits and vegetables are actually greater than their fresh-stored counterparts.
- Frozen foods are easy to prepare. Some of the hottest products in the frozen-food aisle are portable, ready-to-eat and offer no-mess preparation and easy cleanup. Frozen fruits and vegetables come peeled, pre-cut and ready to cook or eat. No washing or cutting is required, which saves time and reduces waste.
- Frozen foods are a real value. Frozen foods are often lower in cost per serving and have a much greater shelf life than refrigerated foods. Frozen fruits and vegetables can also be more easily portioned and stored for later use, which reduces spoilage and food waste, further increasing consumer value.
- Frozen foods are the sensible choice. Frozen food offers portion-controlled packaging to manage serving sizes while leaving nothing to waste. Single-serve pouches and re-sealable packs make it easy for health-conscious consumers to count calories and know complete and exact nutritional information. The portion-controlled packaging of many frozen entrees and sides makes them the all-around clear choice for consumers seeking well-balanced, nutritious meals for themselves and their families.
