Marshall-based employees volunteered with BestPrep's eMentor program, where they mentored ninth-grade students from the Tracy Area High School. |
The eMentor program was coordinated through BestPrep, which is a non-profit organization located in Minnesota. The organization’s mission is to prepare students with business, career and financial literacy skills through hands-on experiences that inspire success in work and life.
The program works by connecting high-school students with business professionals. For an eight-week period, students and business professionals exchange emails, where they share experiences from high school, college and their careers to provide perspective to students who are eager for advice on the skills and experiences necessary for a successful career after school.
Following the eight-week program, employee volunteers hosted a special meet-and-greet session at the corporate office in Marshall, where the mentors and mentees could meet face-to-face. Students enjoyed a tour of the museum and lunch that featured Schwan’s products.
This year’s efforts were led by Accounts Receivable and Collections Representative Michaela Brezinka Fassler.
Michaela shared that the teacher of the students was very complimentary of employees who volunteered.
“She told me that it was impactful for the students to hear real world tips and experiences from business professionals in the workforce,” Michaela said. “She also said that she can lecture on a subject, but it drives it home when the students hear the same topic from someone other than their teacher.”
