July 22, 2016 — Thanks goes out to employees based in the Twin Cities area. They recently wrapped up another successful Food Mania fundraiser benefiting Second Harvest Heartland. This year, the team raised $10,401, which will be matched dollar-for-dollar by the Schwan’s Corporate Giving Foundation.

This was the sixth-consecutive year the Twin Cities area team participated in Food Mania to help Second Harvest Heartland build awareness and alleviate hunger issues in the community. The campaign efforts were led by a small group of employees who helped coordinate several fundraising activities, including “jean days,” a silent auction, food drive and raffle drawings.

For their final activity at the end of the 10-day event, 14 employees and their family members spent an afternoon volunteering at the Second Harvest Heartland warehouse, sorting bulk donations and re-packaging them into family-sized portions. A total of 7,852 pounds of food was sorted and packed that day.

Employee Meghan Shaughnessy, who helped coordinate this year’s event, said that all the fundraising, donations and volunteer efforts combined are equal to approximately 68,795 meals donated for the community.
