Schwan’s Food Service wows at SNA’s Annual National Conference
Team partners with Chef Jet Tila for live demonstrations and introducing new products
July 22, 2019 — Our team recently wrapped up another successful year of showing K12 food-service professionals what Schwan's Food Service has to offer. During the School Nutrition Association’s Annual National Conference (ANC), school food-service pros learned about our products, tried samples and watched live demonstrations using Schwan's foods.
Our team gained extra crowd attention this year as they partnered with Schwan’s Chef Collective member and celebrity chef Jet Tila throughout the event.
Other highlights from Schwan's Food Service this year included introducing a new line of Big Daddy's® “Scratch Ready” pizza offerings for K12 food-service operators, revealing new Minh® Asian-style sauces with simplified ingredients and announcing the expansion of its line of pizza topped with uncured turkey and beef pepperoni.
“At this year’s ANC, we brought solutions to food-service directors that students and school-district chefs have told us they are interested in,” says Robert Dircks, K-12 channel leader for Schwan's Food Service. “In November 2018, we collaborated with the Schwan’s Chef Collective, HISD chefs and students to create new, crave-worthy Asian-fusion recipes using our Minh sauces. Students expressed interest in more variety and trying new flavors, and operators said they are looking for ways to simplify prep time. We can help solve all of these challenges.”
The purpose of this annual SNA conference is to connect and educate. Food-service professionals, food providers and other organizations are brought together to discuss nutrition, attend educational workshops, listen to special-guest speakers and see culinary demonstrations. It’s also an opportunity for food makers to debut and sample their latest creations.
Chef Jet and improved Minh® Asian-style sauces
During ANC, Chef Jet demonstrated to guests how to make Korean BBQ Beef Tacos using Food Service’s Minh Teriyaki Sauce, and he made Pulled Pork Sandwiches with an Asian slaw using Minh Sweet & Sour Sauce.
The new sauces align with the company's ongoing efforts to simplify ingredients. Caramel color and sodium benzoate (a preservative) were removed from the Minh Less Sodium Asian Sauces. Along with this simplification, Minh sauces also have no high fructose corn syrup, no artificial flavors, no certified artificial colors and no added monosodium glutamate.
New pizza offerings
Schwan's Food Service also featured its new Big Daddy’s Primo Scratch Ready Rising Crust Pizza at this year’s event. With this pizza, operators receive a pizzeria-style crust and can customize the toppings and bake — there is no thawing, stretching or docking required. This new product gives operators the flexibility to create any style and variety of pizza with just one product.
“School food-service operators have the desire to offer variety in the lunches they provide, but struggle with controlling costs and waste,” said Dircks. “This new Big Daddy’s Primo Scratch Ready Pizza gives them endless possibilities with one pizza SKU. It’s a win-win for the kids and school culinary teams.”
Schwan's Food Service is also expanding its use of uncured turkey and beef pepperoni on its line of Big Daddy’s Primo pizzas. This uncured pepperoni will now be offered on all Big Daddy’s crust lines, including rising crust and the par-baked crust. This change provides food-service operators even more pepperoni options, with no added artificial preservatives, no nitrates or nitrites, and no BHA or BHT.
