April 28, 2016 — Supporting a great cause and celebrating the flavor-rich world of culinary, our employees and culinary team recently attended the annual Second Harvest Heartland’s “DISH: Cuisine for Change” event in St. Paul, Minnesota. This was the 13th year the event was held with the purpose of raising funds to support those experiencing food insecurities and hunger.
Surpassing last year’s amount of $695,000, this year attendees raised more than $700,000. Funds were raised in a variety of ways, including event and table sponsorships, live and silent auctions and private donations. The funds donated will help Second Harvest Heartland distribute more than 2.1 million meals to local families and individuals in need.
This year, we had several staff members pitch in to help make the event a success, including Culinary Director Michael Gunn, Corporate Executive Chef Matt Horn, Corporate Chef Deb Hey and Schwan's Chef Collective Lead Lauren Halgerson. We'd like to thank the team for donating their time to this great cause.
Second Harvest Heartland is part of the Feeding America Network and has a service area that includes parts of western Wisconsin and most of southern Minnesota and the Twin Cities metro area. According to the non-profit organization, they serve more than 532,000 people annually.
