Aug. 16, 2016 — A big thank you goes out to our team members in Marshall, Minnesota, who recently helped collect donations and volunteered their time for the annual “Stuff the Bus” event. Overall, the Marshall community gathered a record amount of more than 55,600 school supplies, which will help nearly 4,100 K-12 students in 25 school districts throughout Southwest Minnesota.
The “Stuff the Bus” campaign is a community-wide effort to provide new school supplies for students in Lincoln, Lyon, Murray, Yellow Medicine and portions of Cottonwood, Lac qui Parle, Nobles and Redwood counties. Backpacks, school supplies and cash donations are collected throughout the community. The project was coordinated by United Way of Southwest Minnesota and includes all public, private and charter schools in the service area.
School supplies distributed include backpacks, book covers, colored pencils, crayons, pink erasers, pencil-top erasers, folders, glue bottles, glue sticks, hi-lighters, markers, notebooks, pencil boxes, pens, pencils, rulers, scissors and tissues.
Our involvement in the event was coordinated by volunteer employees with our Marshall Schwan’s Engagement Council. The group is an employee-led team dedicated to increasing engagement and celebrating successes.
