Aug. 10 is National S'mores Day

Skip the sticky fingers with Edwards® S’mores Crème Pie

Aug. 9, 2017 — Alert, s’mores lovers! National S’mores Day is Aug. 10, and you can celebrate it without sticky fingers.

While some may celebrate the day with a traditional graham cracker, marshmallow and chocolate combination, our team from Edwards® desserts is offering a new way for consumers to enjoy the popular campfire treat — without the sticky fingers.

The new Edwards® S’mores Crème Pie starts with a freshly baked vanilla cookie crumble crust with a layer of smooth chocolate crème filling and graham-style cookie pieces, and topped with a fluffy, toasted marshmallow flavored meringue and decadent chocolate drizzle.

To prepare for the big day, visit www.EdwardsDesserts.com, and use the “Where to buy” tool to find a location nearest you carrying the Edwards® S’mores Crème Pie.

S’mores history

Exactly how did the classic recipe of graham crackers, marshmallow and chocolate come to be?

According to the Cooking Channel, no one really knows who invented the s’more recipe but the Girl Scouts have the claim to fame for being the first to publish the classic dessert recipe.

The Cooking Channel reports that by the early 1900s, marshmallow roasts were a summer fad. Then, in 1927, a recipe by the name of “Some Mores” had appeared in a book called “Tramping and Trailing with the Girl Scouts.” The recipe became a favorite among Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts — and eventually everyone else too.

It wasn’t until the 1970s that the name of “Some Mores” had been adapted to what we now know as “s’mores.”
