A look at what’s influencing the culinary world

June 16, 2016 — Ever wonder what the next culinary trend might be? Today, it seems like you can’t go into a restaurant without seeing some sort of flatbread pizza. And, it seems there’s always one chili-pepper-inspired dish for those spicy-heat enthusiasts.

All those trends have an origin and caught traction some way. Looking to be ahead of the curve, our culinary-savvy team of experts from the Schwan’s Chef Collective recently put together its “2016 Food and Flavor Expectations” report. The report reviews culinary influencers and trends while also giving consumers a look at what is possibly to come for new food and flavors.

To develop the report, our chefs take into consideration their own culinary knowledge and perspectives on the food world, while also including in-depth research and observances of what current culinary trends they see taking place.

For 2016, our chefs foresee authenticity as a continuing force behind the culinary trends in four areas, which include:

  • Health and wholesomeness.
  • Global and international cuisine.
  • Culinary quality.
In addition, the influencers in each of the four areas will also serve as catalysts for innovation. Going a step further, our chefs used their research and insight to determine innovation opportunities in four specific product categories in the industry. The four product categories include:

  • Appetizers.
  • Pizza.
  • Desserts and ice cream.
