May 17, 2017 — Our team recently helped support Second Harvest Heartland as the organization celebrated its 14th annual “DISH: Cuisine for Change” event in St. Paul, Minnesota. The event is a highlight for the organization, which brings together the best chefs in the area and companies with the purpose of raising funds for those experiencing food insecurities and hunger.

More than 1,000 people attended the annual fundraiser and helped raise enough funds to provide more than 2 million meals for local families and individuals in need. Funds were raised in a variety of ways, including event and table sponsorships, live and silent auctions and private donations.

At this year’s event, Michael Gunn, Matt Horn and Deb Hey from our internal culinary team and Schwan’s Chef Collective attended the event, where they prepared and served pulled-pork carnitas sopes with a sweet corn elote.

You can click here to see the ingredients for the recipe and other menu items from other chefs at the event. The recipe from our team is on page 43.

Second Harvest Heartland is part of the Feeding America Network, which the company entered into an official partnership with in 2011. Its service area includes parts of western Wisconsin and most of southern Minnesota, including the Twin Cities metro area. According to the non-profit organization, they serve more than 532,000 people annually.
