Aug. 20, 2018 — Schwan’s team members in Bloomington, Minnesota, recently joined community partners in raising enough funds to help Second Harvest Heartland provide more than 78,000 meals for those experiencing food insecurities.
The donation effort was a result of a challenge from the Kansas City Royals and Harvester’s Community Food Network to the Minnesota Twins and Second Harvest Heartland to see who could raise the most to fight hunger.
In the end, the Minnesota team raised a total of $26,006 and was beat by Kansas City, which raised $40,406. Although our team didn't come out on top, we know that both sides were the real winners in being able to provide meals for so many experiencing food insecurities.
Our Schwan's team in Bloomington did a jean-day fundraiser and truck-load sale to help raise funds of $2,000. Their total was matched by the Schwan’s Corporate Giving Foundation for a total donation of $4,000 toward the challenge.
Other efforts from community partners included a $5,000 match donation from the Minnesota Twins and a commitment from Cub Foods to match customer donations up to $5,000.
