Aug. 15, 2018 — The Schwan's team in Marshall, Minnesota, recently helped collect donations and volunteered their time for United Way of Southwest Minnesota’s annual “Stuff the Bus” event. Combining their efforts with those in the community, a total of more than 67,000 school supplies and 1,200 hygiene items were gathered. Efforts will help nearly 3,800 K-12 students in 23 school districts throughout Southwest Minnesota.
The “Stuff the Bus” campaign is a community-wide effort to provide new school supplies for students in Lincoln, Lyon, Murray, Yellow Medicine and portions of Cottonwood, Lac qui Parle, Nobles and Redwood counties. Backpacks, school supplies and cash donations are collected throughout the community. The project was coordinated by United Way of Southwest Minnesota and will benefit public, private and charter schools in the service area.
School supplies distributed include backpacks, book covers, colored pencils, crayons, pink erasers, pencil-top erasers, folders, glue bottles, glue sticks, hi-lighters, markers, notebooks, pencil boxes, pens, pencils, rulers, scissors and tissues.
Marshall-based employees were encouraged by the Marshall Schwan’s Engagement Council’s (SEC) volunteer committee to participate in the event. SEC is an employee-led committee dedicated to increasing engagement and celebrating successes. The group is committed to educating employees about our business, supporting community through volunteer efforts, driving collaboration across business units through activities and encouraging employees to make a personal commitment to health and safety.
