Schwan’s Women’s Network reflects on Women’s History Month

March 29, 2018 — This March, millions of women across the world celebrated Women’s History Month to honor the sacrifices of the brave women before us. Here at Schwan’s, our Schwan’s Women’s Network (SWN) celebrated also.

Schwan's Women's Network is a networking group at Schwan's designed to help employees make meaningful connections throughout their careers. Talking with our SWN Chairperson Lil Schroeder, she shared some fun insights to reflect how far we’ve come.

“Collectively, it’s pretty amazing to think about the rights women had to fight for over the years: the right to work, the right for equal pay, the right to own property and even the right to vote,” said Lil.

This progress didn’t just happen, she said. It occurred through women working together for the benefit of other women. It happened through women engaging their male counterparts and encouraging them to help make changes.

“For example, it may have taken many years, but women were finally granted the right to vote with the 19th Amendment in 1920,” Lil said.

"Like those before us, we need to proactively come together to advocate for women, take advantage of the opportunities that the company provides and encourage others to do so as well."

In SWN, the network has a board of directors that includes leaders throughout the organization. This group is routinely meeting to evaluate and figure out how it can support the needs of the Schwan’s team, while also gaining steam on progress toward the organization’s business goals.

Special activities from the network have included career-development webinars, networking opportunities as well as special events with external partners.

Women and men are encouraged to participate in the network and be the drivers of progress.

“As we know from those who came before us, change does not come overnight, but together we can move forward and pave a path for those to come,” Lil said.
